NOMINATIONS for local sporting heroes are being sought for the Farnham Sports Awards 2016, recognising all those who’ve done well in sport or for a sports club over the past year or longer.
“If you know a worthy nominee then do not hesitate to enter them,” is the message from organisers the Farnham Sports Council, and nominations can come from anyone - be it a club, coach, parent, grandparent or friend.
The sports council in partnership with Active Surrey is pushing for nominations before the deadline for applications closes on August 31.
Linda Cairns, from Active Surrey, said: “We are on a mission to find local sporting heroes who have made a difference to your school, club or team.
“Have you been inspired by an athlete, motivated by a coach, impressed by a volunteer or just proud of your club? If so, please consider a nomination to the Farnham Sports Awards, the nominations close soon.”
Categories of nominations include Senior Sports Personality, Junior Sports Personality, Senior Team, Junior Team, Coach of the Year, Disabled Sports Personality, Volunteer of the Year and the Service to Sport Award.
A special presentation evening will take place at the end of October at Farnham Rugby Club in Monkton Lane with the winners advancing to the Surrey Sports Awards before Christmas.
Sports council secretary Marion Stockley added: “Though many of the nominations come from local sports clubs, we actively encourage friends and family to nominate worthy teams and individuals to have a look at the Farnham Sports Awards 2016.
“It’s a simple application process. There are many in Farnham who do a great deal for sport and don’t get the recognition they deserve.”
