WITH a blustery and soggy start to the VE/VJ Day Celebrations at Gostrey Meadows on Saturday, August 20, all was well in the end as the rain stayed away for the remainder of the event, which was hosted and organised by a small team of members of Farnham’s Royal British Legion.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Farnham, John Ward, and compered by Rockin’ Robin, who continued rockin’ and compering at the evening 1940s tea dance and swing, held at the Liberal Club in South Street.
To keep the mood upbeat, the community was entertained by the Glenn Miller Tribute Band, Natasha with her 1940s and 50s sing-along, the amazing Mr Rodney H Type Esq (aka The Gentleman Spiv) with an emporium of magic and illusions and the Farnham, Fleet and Aldershot Sea Cadets. Coneleys Amusements were in attendance for the children, as were Mini-Angels (face painting).
The RAF Military Police brought along their sniffer dog, and Dave Allaway attended on behalf of the Screaming Eagles with his military vehicles.
Farnham’s The Albion public house provided the gourmet delights of burgers and hot dogs throughout the day.
Farnham’s Royal British Legion would like to thank all the stall holders for attending the event, including The Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society.
Farnham’s Royal British Legion have also said that the commemoration of VE/VJ Day is now a regular annual Farnham event.
