SEVEN girls from Haslemere were on the bronze medal winning team from Edgeborough competing in last month’s National IAPS Hockey Championships.

Isabella, Elle, Helena, Ruby, Sophia, Natasha and Rosie were in the side competing against schools from around the country at Derby’s Repton School.

It was the second year running the Edgeborough U11 team qualified for the finals competing against the best 24 Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) sides. They had scored 28 goals and conceded only two at the regional finals.

Despite dominating much of the play in their semi-final against Kent College, Edgeborough were beaten 3-0.

The girls were eager to earn themselves a medal, having been regularly complimented on their skills levels and after a closely fought draw against Red Maids in the third and fourth place play-off, it was agreed to share the bronze.

Head of girls’ games Vicky Scrutton said: “Everyone at the school is extremely proud of the girls’ achievement. They demonstrated a superb level of skill on the day matched by very few teams. Every one contributed to the success, showing excellent focus and maturity. To achieve the bronze two years in a row is remarkable.”
