THE Farnhamian 400 Trust, which is part of the Old Farnhamians’ Association, will present the 26th Farnham Lecture on Tuesday, October 27, at South Farnham Junior School, Menin Way, Farnham. The lecture will commence at 3pm with doors opening at 2.30pm.
Over the years this annual lecture has attracted many excellent speakers covering a large variety of subjects of interest. This year follows this trend with the speaker being Sir Andrew Carter OBE, currently the headteacher of the highly successful South Farnham Junior School.
Sir Andrew has been head of the school since 1988 and has gradually built it into the school that over the past 10 years has been voted top of all primary schools in England and Wales in the Sunday Times influential Parent Power list. He sits on a range of national strategic policy groups, including the teaching agency for ITT, NCETM for mathematics and the academic group with the National College.
In 2003 Andrew was awarded the CBE for his services to education and in 2014 was knighted for his working planning to improve education for pupils and students throughout the country.
Education is a very controversial subject currently in the United Kingdom and Sir Andrew has chosen to give his personal views as the theme of the lecture. For local people this should prove to be an interesting talk and give the listener the opportunity to hear from a teacher who has made a great success of his career.
Tickets for the lecture entitled ‘Education in the United Kingdom – A Personal View’ cost £5, with students free of charge, and are available from Brian Williams. Call 01252 715430.
