HITTING the spot on World Book Day, Royal Junior School headteacher Holly Hirst swept in as Walt Disney baddie Cruella De Vil and pupils and teachers in the daycare and nursery classes dressed up as the 101 Dalmatians.
As an added bonus, children from nursery to prep six also enjoyed a visit from Dan Metcalf, author of The Lottie Lipton Adventures.
In the senior school, author and illustrator A L Sestier, who wrote the Peter Perseus series led a creative writing workshop while there was also a competition to find the best “fantasy reading photograph”.
Senior students were challenged to bring their favourite book to life by encapsulating the whole story in one photograph, selecting a scene and using a collection of images to tell that part of the story, or portraying a central character.
The years 7-9 winner was Tati for Robin Steven’s A Murder Most Unladylike series, with Nell’s depiction of George Orwell’s Animal Farm highly commended.
Wendy won the years 10-13 category with a series of images inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince. The winners received book vouchers to spend at the book fair, which was held all week for pupils in both schools.
