Things are looking up for Andy Nunn, manager of Farnham Town who finished an ignominious second from bottom in the Combined Counties League last season.

Dave Ward, a successful coach at the Memorial Ground before leaving for Sandhurst with former Town boss Peter Browning, has agreed to return to the struggling club.

He will be assistant manager to Nunn who is delighted to have an experienced coach as his right-hand man.

"Dave was a little frustrated at Sandhurst who have a big coaching staff. He wanted to have more input and he will certainly have that here," explained Nunn.

He discussed the matter with Browning and it was amicably agreed that Ward could move on.

Nunn had more good news this week. Former players Andy Warner and Chris Guppy are returning to Farnham to run the reserve side, having been joint managers of Surrey Intermediate League side Wrecclesham last season.

The return of Ward, Warner and Guppy should bring more players in their wake. And with last season's players all apparently available, Farnham should have the strength in depth to comfortably field three senior sides each week.

"I wanted three people working with the first team and with myself, Dave Ward and, hopefully, Tim Smith, we should have a good set-up," said Nunn.

Tom Powers and Stuart Maginnis will be in charge of the newly formed Farnham Town Youth side which was accepted into the Allied Counties League at the AGM last week.

Farnham's unnofficial training has been well attended and Nunn hopes there will be a good turn-out for the first session proper at the Memorial Ground on Tuesday (start 7 pm).

Farnham will visit Sussex club Hassocks in their opening pre-season friendly on July 21. Their first home friendly will be against Three Bridges on Saturday, August 4.
