HIGHFIELD South Farnham School Nursery which opened last month under the Highfield South Farnham banner has quickly gome from strength to strength.

The purpose-built nursery for the development of children aged three to four, can accommodate up to 35 children per session. The nursery provides lunch, morning and afternoon care, offering all of the early years foundation requirements, making sure there is a sound preparation for reception.

By the Governmen’ts childcare scheme, the nursery school offers 15 hours free of charge, which can be a mixture of mornings, afternoons and full days. If parents are wanting more than 15 hours a week this will come at a cost.

Headteacher Gregory West said: “It is a purposeful, peaceful and harmonious school and community. Since February when we joined the trust, we have really developed and moved forward significantly. We have achieved some very healthy results and outcomes, well above the national average, which is fantastic.

“We have had some significant development over the summer in the school, including the opening of our new nursery provision. The school has progressed significantly and we have a whole host of new children joining us from Farnham - our numbers are increasing day by day.

“We have already had super feedback from families, they are pleased about the fresh start and how it’s moved forward. The opportunity to expand is there, and in the future we will start taking in two year olds.”

The nursery is home to a number of exciting new adventures where the children can further develop their skills, such as the soft play room, the number corner, the reading corner which is fitted with a listening post, a home corner where children can role play, and a garden.

Nursery practitioner Janice Hodge said: “We have had such good parental feedback, it has been lovely and we have already had our first child signed off from a recommendation from another parent – which is brilliant. We also have free-flow play, so rather than all activities being adult-led we are encouraging the children to get involved and socialise as much as they can.

“The garden is in a gated provision but we can use the school facilities as well, so there is a lot of linking with the rest of the school. The soft play is fantastic in terms of educational opportunities, we can use it for sensory, vocabulary and numbers whilst using our projector.”
