THE chief executive officer of Forest Research, the scientific research agency of the Forestry Commission, has been appointed OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours. Professor Jim Lynch, pictured, who is based at Alice Holt Lodge Research Station lives in West Sussex. He has been honoured particularly for his work as programme co-ordinator in biological resource management, within the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for the past 17 years. He is also Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Life Sciences at the University of Surrey, where he was head of the school of Biomedical and Life Sciences for 10 years, before taking up his current post four years ago. Professor Lynch said: "I am thrilled and surprised, to be awarded this honour, and very proud to have been nominated for it by colleagues. "I do, however, also see it very much as recognition for the world-class work and support I have had from the excellent colleagues and staff I have the privilege to work with at Forest Research, the Forestry Commission not to mention the University of Surrey. "I would not have achieved what I have without their support, and I would like to thank and pay tribute to them for their efforts."
