PLANS to build a number of "mega accommodation pods" at Old Thorns Golf and Country Club have been withdrawn following numerous objections.

The proposal to relocate the existing 10 "pods" to an alternative location on site to accommodate new apartments which received planning permission in 2009 – but have yet to be built – and add a number of "mega eco-pods", created a barrage of objections.

District councillors have hit out at suggestions by some residents that East Hampshire District Council has favoured applications made by Old Thorns, since the golf club and hotel's owner, Martin Shaw, is a member of its non-executive board.
