RESIDENTS of Willow Way, Farnham, have failed to prevent a licence to sell alcohol being issued for a Costcutter store planned for their estate.
Assertions that misbehaviour and late-night disorder are already rife in the square where the store is set to open have not persuaded councillors on Waverley Council's Licensing Act sub-committee.
Surrey Police had made no objection to the licence, which made it "very difficult" for the sub-committee, chairman Elizabeth Cable told angry objectors on Monday.
Nevertheless, the strength of feeling against the licence, including opposition from the headteacher of Farnham Heath End School, has led to the compromise that alcohol must not be sold during the lunch hour or at the end of the school day.
