ANYONE passing through Bentley on Friday might have been forgiven for wondering why a Christmas pudding and a group of Santas and a small herd of reindeer with flashing red noses were running round the Recreation Ground.

In fact it was the pupils, staff and some parents from Bentley Primary School completing an as-many-laps-as-you-like sponsored run to raise money for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice at Farnham.

The Christmas pudding was teacher Chris Smallwood, who set the pace, and the Santas were staff and parents while the reindeer were the pupils, as every class took part in the sponsored run which last year raised £4,000 for the hospice.

The smallest runners, the reception class children, were given a hand with their running by the pupils of year six who also manned the course to make sure it was safe and everyone knew which way to go.

Tea and cakes provided by the Parent Teachers and Friends Association were provided at the finish.

Teacher Liz Evans said: "The whole thing was a lot of fun for a very good cause. We hope to top last year's total."
