FOLLOWING a barrage of objections, the owners of Old Thorns Manor Hotel have withdrawn plans for a second golf course on heathland at Weavers Down.

Old Thorns' chief executive Ashley revealed the club was withdrawing the plan while agents revist the many aspects affecting the complicated eco-mangement of the land with picturesque views over the South Downs.

The original application was presented to several parish councils, all bordering on land around the golf and country club's estate, over the past three months.

Every parish including Bramshott and Liphook, Milland, Rake and Liss, objected to the scheme – which Old Thorns claimed – was aimed at preventing countryside popular with walkers from being sold off, and being redeveloped for non-leisure use,

Support for the planning application in its current form was in the minority.
