A DATE has been set for the opening of Alton’s new sports centre, with some famous faces on hand to ensure the launch event goes swimmingly.
Everyone Active, which manages the centre in partnership with East Hampshire District Council, has announced the grand opening of the new facility will take place on Saturday, January 11.
An official ribbon cutting has been scheduled for 10am.
An Everyone Active spokesman said: “At the fun-filled open day, visitors will be able to get a first look at the new £20 million sports centre and have the opportunity to try the new facilities and a variety of activities, such as gym challenges and exercise classes, for free.
“Attendees will also benefit from the chance to win a phenomenal £3,500 prize giveaway.
“The local community is invited to join in the fun alongside former Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson and gold medal-winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington.
“Becky will also be hosting a Total Swimming event from 10.30am to 12.30pm to encourage more young people to be active in the water, by helping them learn a number of new aquatic skills.”
The centre will replace the existing facility, which will close its doors for the final time in January.
Alton Sports Centre will offer a six-lane main pool with seating for up to 150 spectators, a learner pool with an adjustable floor, a 130-station fitness suite, sports halls, climbing wall, two squash courts, two five-a-side outdoor 3G football pitches, and a destination spa.
