DUNSFOLD Park's controversial bid for 1,600 extra flights during the Olympics has been backed by Waverley planners.

Objectors had protested that granting the temporary permission requested to help meet the increased demand could help pave the way for the unrestricted aviation use currently sought by the airfield.

But planning officers have recommended the Olympics application should be granted by Waverley's 23-strong joint planning committee when it determines the plan next Wednesday because it would be in the "national interest".
