OLYMPIC silver medallist in the Sevens Rugby competition at the Rio Olympics, Philip Burgess, impressed Weydon School students with his rugby skills and tips.
Phil arrived early to take an assembly for all the rugby players at the school – followed by a coaching session for students in years seven to 10.
The students took part in handling, tackling and defensive organisation drills before Phil put them into a game.
Alongside this he patiently posed for numerous photographs and signed many autographs, showing real empathy with the students.
PE curriculum area leader Karl Brown said: “The students thoroughly enjoyed meeting and being coached by Phil.
“His passion for the game and willingness to put back into his own sport was awesome, and his influence as a positive role model for our students can only help in our drive to further raise the profile, and standard of rugby being played at Weydon School.”
Weydon School is grateful to Coan Foods for its support in facilitating Phil’s visit.
