PUPILS from a school in Alton have had their hands a little bit of sporting history.

The youngsters from Eggar's School took possession of a torch from the 1948 London Olympics, on loan from a former pupil of Toynbee Sports College in Eastleigh where it was used as a house trophy.

The torch has been shown to all year groups in assemblies to enhance the school's Olympic value assembly themes.

And it will be featuring in Olympic-themed events over the next few days.
