TWO Surrey MPs have expressed their anger, that one year after a public meeting, staff, patients and local people are still in the dark about the Royal Surrey's future.  Anne Milton, MP for Guildford and Jeremy Hunt, MP for South West Surrey, at last year's meeting called on all local people, regardless of their party politics, to fight for the hospital. Their plea resulted in the phenomenally successful, independent cross- party 'Save the Royal Surrey' campaign, headed by chairman Professor Chris Marks.  In the last year, since the public meeting, there has been a rally in the centre of Guildford, attended by over 7,000 local people, an all night candle-lit vigil in Parliament Square, a thanks-giving service at Guildford Cathedral and Anne Milton and Jeremy Hunt recently launched their booklet 'The Case for the Royal Surrey'.  It now appears that the hospital will stay open but the threat to services, such as the A&E, remains. Speaking on the anniversary of the public meeting, Jeremy Hunt said: "One year on and health ministers have come and gone, a new Prime Minister has take over at the top, PCTs have been reorganised and yet the future of the Royal Surrey is still unclear.  "The one thing that has not changed is the determination of local people and the campaign to fight closures at the hospital. "It is time for all our efforts to be recognised and the future of all the Royal Surrey's services to be assured." Anne Milton added: "When Jeremy and I held the public meeting a year ago today, I have no doubt that health bosses were considering whole hospital closure for the Royal Surrey. "However, the outstanding response from people across our community, and across the political divide, made health bosses stop and think again.  "We have been fighting for over a year now and it remains hugely damaging for staff, patients and local people, that the axe still hangs over the future of services at the Royal Surrey.   "We want an end to the uncertainty and a clear message from the PCT that services at Royal Surrey are safe."
