OPERA South supporters packed into Haslemere’s Georgian Hotel on Saturday, for the company’s hugely popular black tie fundraising New Year party.

Tickets for the event sold out in early December, and a full house enjoyed the champagne and canapes reception, before sitting down to a concert by London-based singers, featuring opera arias and show songs, followed by a gourmet dinner and wine.

Opera South spokesman Carolann Martys said. “The company has been showcasing talented young soloists for over 30 years, ensuring that live opera is available throughout Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex.

“The New Year party, now into its 20th year, launches another year of entertainment, beginning with ‘Puccini: The Man and his Music’, a talk with music and visuals by Michael Hartnall, exposing the heart and soul of this incredible composer, at Haslemere Educational Museum, on April 20.

“On June 8, there will be a summer recital at Champs Hill, Coldwaltham, Pulborough, West Sussex.

“Opera South are delighted to announce their next opera, ‘Mansfield Park’, is planned for February 21,22 and 23 in 2019. Jonathan Dove’s opera was commissioned by Grange Festival for its 2017 augural season.”
