AN invitation to the town hall find out more about what Haslemere Town Council does over a cup of tea and a slice of cake, was taken up by members of The Orchard Club.
Haslemere Deputy Mayor Sahran Abeysundara hosted the gathering and answered questions about community issues.
The event last Wednesday, was also attended by Anita Cumber, community champion at Haslemere Tesco, which donated the cakes.
“It was an opportunity for residents to meet the decision makers of our town and put forward some views from the older generation,” said Orchard Club manager Hilary Owen.
“Sahran was great and it went very well. It was definitely not a moaning session.”
Forty eight hours earlier Haslemere Mayor Melanie Odell and town councillors had been invited to the club’s HQ at Haslewey Community Centre, in Wey Hill.
They were invited to sample The Orchard Club’s new healthier menu, which now includes scrambled egg and salmon on toast , poached egg on toast and omelettes as well as Fair Trade coffee.
The club volunteers who run the café have been working hard to remind residents that Haslewey is an all-age community centre, which has a cafe serving reasonably priced food and healthy alternatives open to everyone.
