TOWN councillors have demanded that an ÒappallingÓ repair job on a Bordon road is replaced with a more suitable surface.
Their complaints come after the surface of Forest Road is reported to be in desperate need of repair less than 11 months after it was last fixed.
Last summer workmen spent around three days using surface dressing to repair the road, which is heavily used by cars and large lorries, .
But although it gave motorists a smoother ride for a while, just six months after the work was carried out, surface dressing chips began to break away from the road.
Now less than a year after the county council finished the first programme of surface dressing, it is proposing to come back and resurface the road again using the same material.
On Monday, Whitehill Town Council members were outraged at the county councilÕs plans to use surface dressing on the road again and questioned why the road could not have a ÒproperÓ surface.
Chairman Michael Watkinson told members that many of the townÕs residents were not happy with the current state of the road.
ÒIt was a bit of a shambles last time it was done,Ó he said. ÒWhen we were electioneering, many of the people we spoke to were concerned about the appalling state of Forest Road. They (the county council) are now trying to remedy the appalling remedial work that was done last time.Ó
Clerk Linda Tiley told members that the county council was proposing to carry out the surface dressing work over the summer months.
David Williamson said that the current state of the road posed a danger to pedestrians.
ÒAll that grit is getting thrown up from the cars,Ó he said. ÒMy wife has tried to cross the road and she has been hit by grit.Ó
Dr Watkinson said that the council did not want the same work to be carried out again and instead called for the county council to do a ÒproperÓ job.
ÒWe have accepted one error and we are not going to accept another one,Ó he said.
ÒWhy are we not allowed to have a quieter road surface? The current one is unacceptable in a built-up area. They should accept their mistakes in the past and try and correct them.Ó
County council spokesperson Sarette Martin told The Herald that the chosen method of surface dressing was a Òcost effectiveÓ way of repairing the surface of the road.
