THERE was not a spare seat in the hall when Bob Flowerdew, BBC Radio 4’s Gardener’s Question Time panelist, on was the keynote speaker at a Grayshott Gardeners’ meeting last week.
Club spokesman Terry French said: “His often amusing and informative talk ranged from his far flung family, his philosophy and the importance of a sharp hoe.
“His ideas on gardening were aimed at making less work by not following the ‘rules’ but adapting them to suit your needs: no need to dig a trench, fill it with compost, plant runner beans then have to give away the surplus. Gardening should be enjoyable not a boring and repetitive chore.
“Organically grown fruit and vegetables may not always look perfect but in Bob’s opinion taste better.”
Grayshott Gardeners meet on the second Wednesday of the month at Grayshott Village Hall. The next meeting will be the AGM on Wednesday, November 11, and on Wednesday December 9, a talk by Gordon Rae called ‘Stories From The RHS’ will round off a year of lectures, shows and events.
New members and visitors are always welcome. For more information about the club go to www.grayshott gardeners.net or email [email protected]
