TWO Petersfield women have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Canon Annabelle Boyes, receiver general of Winchester Cathedral, was awarded an MBE for services to the church, recognising her commitment and dedication to the cathedral and to the wider church.

Speaking of the award, Mrs Boyes said: “Winchester Cathedral’s thousand-year heritage of ministry to people from all walks of life in so many ways is continually growing.

“I feel privileged to be have to have been part of that in my time here as receiver general and project director. I am delighted to receive this honour in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.”

Fellow Petersfield resident and charity volunteer Prue Scurfield was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to fundraising for Save the Children, having been involved with the charity for an astonishing four decades.

A former chairman of the charity’s Petersfield branch, Mrs Scurfield stepped down as secretary last June to take “more of a back seat role”.
