TWO pals have completed the 3,000 mile Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge after 38 days, 22 hours and 31 minutes at sea.

Seamus Crawford and Paddy Montgomery are the first to have ever completed all three extreme challenges; The Race across Europe, the Marathon Des Sables across the Sahara and the Talisker Whiskey Challenge.

Paddy is raising money for the Surrey-based Prostate Project, a volunteer-led prostate cancer charity.

The money Paddy raises is going towards the charity’s Buy a Brick appeal, which aims to put £2.1 million towards a new urology centre at Guildford’s Royal Surrey County Hospital.

Seamus is taking part for Shooting Star Chase; Farnham’s local children’s hospice charity which cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting illnesses.

He said: “It’s difficult to describe the walls of water we encountered out there.

“They literally have been the size of buildings at times - both Paddy and I have definitely had moments where we have never been so scared.

“At those times, you realise just how much at the mercy of the elements you really are and that nobody actually conquers the Atlantic when they row across it - the Atlantic merely lets you pass through - if you’re lucky.”
