HOPES of re-opening Dunsfold village school as a free school in 2014 have been dashed after parents failed to give sufficient support for the project.
But the village board of trustees behind the scheme will press ahead with the long-running campaign to restore the educational use of its former Church of England infant school, which was closed in 2004 – against the wishes of the village.
A board spokesman said: "The fact that we cannot proceed with a free school application now does not mean that we give up any interest in the future village use of the school site."
