ROWLEDGE volunteers pressing for a breakaway parish council for the village will start collecting signatures on Saturday to trigger a governance review to be carried out by Waverley Borough Council.
The petition requiring 250 names will be circulated door-to-door after 65 residents turned out for a public meeting in Rowledge Village Hall last Thursday, five days after a well-attended open meeting on the same subject.
Ultimately the decision will rest with Waverley Council, but if sufficient villagers sign up, there will be a formal 12-month consultation period and a democratic vote to reflect the views of the local community.
