SHOPPERS and visitors to Petersfield are set to be hit where it hurts, with car parking charges poised to rise by as much as 10 per cent.

If agreed, the hike in the cost of car parking in the town will come into effect next April. It will include increases in long-stay charges, Sunday charges and season tickets only.

Included in a raft of proposed measures is a reduction in the maximum length of stay in the Central car park from four hours to three hours, to maximise the availability of spaces in the busy car park.

Petersfield town centre season tickets are also set to rise by three per cent, with the cost of an annual season ticket rising to £840 and to £440 for six months.
