HASLEMERE'S town centre faces being turned into a ghost town with local traders being forcced out of business if controversial car parking charges are foced through by Surrey County Council.

That was the stark warning issued this week by the town's Chamber of Trade, which is organising a petition for people to sign.

They are against the county council's proposals to introduce on-street car parking charges.

Chamber president Julianne Evans urged people to sign it and take part in the public consultation.
