AS car parking charges look set to soar despite fierce local opposition, East Hampshire has been accused of using Alton as "a cash cow for the district".

At a heated debate on Tuesday, EHDC environment services committee vice-chairman, Patrick Burridge, was left in no doubt as to the strength of feeling within the town, when he was grilled on what local people believe to be an "unfair and inequitable" increase in tariff.
