PARKING problems in Petersfield need to be urgently addressed in a complete package rather than 'piecemeal' solutions for individual areas, town councillors warned this week. At a meeting of the town council's planning committee on Tuesday, members welcomed Hampshire County Council plans to ban on-street parking on parts of Borough Road and Alderfield, where parking led to concerns over safety. But they said individual schemes were not the overall answer. Chris Jenner echoed the sentiments of other councillors when he said: "I think this particular scheme is sensible, but I object quite strongly to to doing each road singly. What Petersfield needs is a proper overall parking scheme for the whole town." He said each time a restriction was brought in, it pushed the parking problem further out to roads away from the centre of town. "People bought homes in nice quiet cul-de-sacs, now they are finding motorists parking in them and they are dangerous for children to play in. The county council needs to tackle parking in Petersfield in one go. I am rather concerned at this piecemeal attitude." Hilary Ayer told councillors she believed that Hampshire County Council was due to look at Petersfield as a whole next year.
