Back by popular demand, 3 PWRR based locally at the Farnham Reserve Centre provided three traditional curries to a large queue of hungry visitors. Some even came back for seconds.
The curries proved so popular that they ran out. Visitors to the ABF Gazebo also purchased cCap badged tea towels, Christmas cards and ABF diaries.
The Deputy Mayor of Farnham, John Ward, and Paddie Blagden visited the stand along with many former servicemen and women.
Lt Col Chris Booth, chairman of Farnham Hub, who manned the stand with the support of Canon Peter Bruinvels, Regional Fundraiser Surrey, Bill and Christie Bird announced that the remarkable sum of £1,132 had been raised for The Soldiers’ Charity.
Canon Bruinvels said: “We are delighted with the generosity of Farnham people who want out of their way to support ex-servicemen and women. They recognise the tremendous debt thatwe all owe to our brave service personnel who fought for this great country to keep Britain free.
“All sums raised today will be used to help support them in their hour of need
The ABF as the Soldiers’ Charity offers a lifetime of support to soldiers, former soldiers and their families. Grants are given in the spirit of a hand up rather than a hand out.”
The next Farnham Hub event is a ‘Councillors’ briefing and curry’ on Thursday, October 15, at the Reserve Centre where councillors from Waverley, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere will be briefed by key speakers on the role of the British Army today, as well as about Reservists and Cadets across Surrey.
