THE second annual Peter Alliss Masters golf tournament has taken place at Old Thorns Manor Hotel Golf and Country Estate, attracting 88 players on the day.
Cash raised from the annual Masters event helps buy powered wheelchairs for children with limited mobility.
The wheelchairs cost between £4,000 and £5,000 each.
The event at Old Thorns is one of a number held across the UK each year, with £7.5m having been raised since 1998, and the final total amount raised from this year’s renewal is yet to be finalised.
Highlights of this year’s Masters Wheelchair Classic was a special awards ceremony, where five children received new wheelchairs from legendary golf broadcaster Mr Alliss and his wife, Jackie.
This year’s recipients were 24-year-old Kieran, who loves music and football, 16-year-old movie buff Iesha, who has just completed her GCSEs and is planning to study children’s mental health.
Five-year-old Lyla, from Birmingham, stole the show at the presentation, while Reece, who is 18 years old and comes from Stoke-on-Trent, is a wheelchair football fanatic as well as a Stoke City supporter, while David, 16, from Derbyshire, another wheelchair football addict, is heading to college in Coventry.
