Both these local rivals have been struggling to make an impression on the league, but it was Petersfield who belied their early-season form and sunk Aldershot & Farnham with a six-goal salvo.

Despite the scoreline and a third consecutive defeat, A&F can take comfort from an improved display.

The commitment was back and, after starting brightly, the home team took the lead when Alun Chick finished off a skilful right-wing run by Andy Willis.

But this setback seemed only to lift Petersfield who played with renewed confidence after last week's morale-boosting victory.

Five youngsters in the side are beginning to play to their potential more consistently and the visitors soon drew level, Nick Budden striking home from a short corner won by Alex Elms' snaking run.

Elms then got on the end of a mis-hit cross from Tom Martin to put Petersfield in front and, after a flowing move involving Tom Martin and Marcus Handley, ace marksman Dean Tutt scored with aplomb to make it 3-1.

There was no respite for Aldershot as Petersfield carried their purple patch into the second half.

With the blend of youth and experience again working well, Budden drilled home from another short corner and then Dean Tutt crossed for Elms to get the faintest touch at the far post.

Five-one, and no way back for A&F, although they continued to push players forward, only to be thwarted by a solid defence.

Aldershot were unable to captitalise on several short corners, but eventually they did pull one back when Dave Jervis and Graeme Matthews released Steve Farrer and by the time the cross came in, the enterprising Matthews had somehow arrived at the far post to deflect the ball in.

Even the sin-binning of two players failed to disrupt Petersfield's rhythm and they rounded off the scoring when Dean Tutt was grounded in the 'D' and Tom Martin flicked the penalty high into the net.

Petersfield entertain Fleet at Bedales (12 noon) this Saturday, while A&F travel to Portsmouth & Southsea.
