Petersfield ended the long league campaign in spectacular fashion with this thrashing of Salisbury.

It was a polished all-round display by the home team. That said, it was Salisbury who opened the scoring from a short corner, the shot squeezing under 'keeper Paul Martin.

This jolted Petersfield into action and, within minutes, Dean Tutt had beaten the goalkeeper at the other end.

Marcus Handley then joined the action, allowing the mid-field to form its familiar shape, and Petersfield took full command.

John Phillips dispatched the ball with ease at a short corner to give them the lead.

Petersfield had Bill Ashworth sin-binned for one strong tackle too many, but during the time they were down to 10 men, Phillips ghosted past three defenders before scoring his second.

In the second half, Petersfield drew Salisbury forward before counter-attacking at speed. As a result, the visitors were cut to pieces repeatedly and in attempting to halt the onslaught conceded two penalty strokes which Phillips duly converted.

Tutt and Handley scored the last two goals. Leigh Saunders should have scored at the far post, but managed not too, which should not detract from another good performance at this level.

Petersfield remain top goal scorers in this division and will finish not lower than fourth.
