Petersfield RFC, aiming to build on their recent successes, could be linking up with top Premiership club London Irish.
Representatives of London Irish visited Petersfield this week to give a presentation at Penns Place, showing how Petersfield could benefit from such a link.
Petersfield's links with the Irish have been building since the Premiership club moved their home to Reading's Madjeski Stadium. The first XV will meet the London Irish Amateur Club in London South West 4 this season.
The club's mini/midi section took part in a rugby workshop at London Irish in April, then watched the match between Irish and Sale Sharks.
London Irish are establishing an England Players' Development Centre at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth, and therefore investigating a link with the Premiership outfit seems a natural progression. Many Petersfield members are spectators at London Irish matches on Sunday afternoons at the Craic.
Meanwhile, Petersfield's youth section has launched a search for sponsors of the two major events to be held next season. The Petersfield Mini tournament takes place in October and the Hampshire County Tournament for under 9s and 10s will be held in March, 2003. Both events involve over 400 youngsters, and provide a good opportunity for sponsors.
The youth section has been very successful on the pitch, with a membership of over 200, three age groups being county champions and two runners-up.
Petersfield's Rugby Workshop, to be held on August 15-17, has broken all records, matching last year's bookings one month ahead of the event. Additional rugby balls have had to be ordered due to the demand this year. The Sensible Bike Company of Petersfield are providing a British bike for the free draw to be held on August 17. The bicycle will go to one of the juniors aged between 5 and 12 who will be participating in the workshop.
