Petersfield soon had the upper hand over bottom side Alton in Saturday's local derby in Hampshire Division One.

Dean Tutt made several penetrating runs, but his radar did not seem to be tuned on goal.

Andy Bray took over the stopping duty at short corners to good effect and Nick Budden had a drag flick well saved.

Tutt eventually broke the deadlock through sheer persistence in the Alton 'D'.

Alton then managed to get into the game more, but Petersfield's defence was solid, with David Greetham very dependable in goal.

In the second half, Petersfield really pressurised the home side and Bill Ashworth, receiving a gift from a defender, drilled the ball straight past the 'keeper for the second goal.

Petersfield then scored what they thought was a good goal from a short corner, Marcus Handley's shot bouncing off the 'keeper into the net, only to have it disallowed.

Alton then won two or three short corners of their own which Greetham and his defence coped with very well.

Then, from another short corner, the ball was eventually turned in by John Phillips to wrap up the points.

Petersfield certainly did their near-neighbours no favours in their bid for Division One survival.

This Saturday, Petersfield entertain Blandford at Bohunt (1-30 pm), hoping to avenge an earlier defeat. Alton travel to Hamble Old Boys.
