PETERSFIELD a cappella singers The Free Radicals are offering a concert of contemplation and reflection by singing choral music written for Lent from the Renaissance to the present day.

The free concert at St Peter’s Church in The Square on Wednesday at 7.30pm will be complemented by dramatic poetry readings.

Director Steve Sargent said: “It’s one of our favourite events of the year because the music is passionate, inspiring and moving – even if you’re not much of a churchgoer.”

At the end there will be a collection for Petersfield charity the Ukraine Christian Partnership.

Originally an informal group of people from two churches, Holy Trinity Claygate and the United Reformed Church Petersfield, it became a charity in 2011.

It works in the Carpathian mountains of western Ukraine bordering Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. It had focused on building a partnership with villages near the Romanian and Hungarian borders but recently switched to providing food, toiletries, accommodation, heating and security for people who have fled to western Ukraine.
