SIGN up to the Surrey Petition to help fight the closure of Surrey's accident and emergency centres, is the message from a Waverley activist. Ken Callanan of Godalming has asked 35 local businesses in his home town to help with the launch of the petition. As well as photocopying the petition for residents and customers to take away with them, shops are also putting up posters in support. Local business, Work Station is providing a 50 per cent discount off the petition and poster. Mr Callanan said: "I am trying to raise public awareness of potential closures and I envisage that the Surrey petition will be forwarded to 10 Downing Street six weeks after the Surrey and Sussex Strategic Health Authority announce their proposals for Surrey. "Without being political, I sincerely believe in the very democratic integrity of peaceful 'people power'. "Surely we owe it not only to ourselves and our families, but to the many NHS staff who meet our needs." Anyone wishing to get a copy of the Surrey Petition to sign up and help fight closures should either travel to Farnham's Work Station or email Mr Callanan at [email protected]">[email protected] or write c/o 30 Ockford Road, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1QY.
