THIEVES broke into an Esso petrol station in Hindhead on Monday night, making off with goods and cash to the value of around £3,000. Police were alerted to the incident in the early hours of Tuesday morning and believe that the thieves broke in between 10 pm and 5-45 am. The suspects are believed to have entered the shop through the skylight on the roof. They stole tobacco, cigarettes and cash to an estimated value of £3,000, causing a further £250 worth of damage. The petrol station lies on the northbound side of A3 running towards Guildford and facing The Devil's Punchbowl Hotel, which was itself the site of an attempted armed robbery last week. Police investigating the petrol station burglary do not believe that the incident is connected to the previous incident at the hotel.
