LUDSHOTT Photographic Club held its first print competition of the 2015-16 season last month.
There was an excellent entry of 56 pictures, judged by Ann Smith from Cranleigh Camera Club, an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society.
There were some prints in the beginners’ class, but marking was quite strict.
There was only one maximum score, which was awarded to Bruce Gardner for ‘Only Bamboo for Me’, a picture of a giant panda. Barry Andrews came close with ‘Old Bridge in Elterwater’, which gained nine-and-a-half marks.
In the intermediate class, Ken Lindup’s image ‘Alersund,’ a moody dawn seascape, gained the only maximum mark.
The runners-up were Joan Sims, with a study of a pony entitled ‘Alone‚’ and Sonia Motely, with a garden picture entitled ‘Hidden Door,’ both of whom were given a score of nine-and-a-half. Ken Lindup also did well with ‘Prowling Tiger,’ which scored nine.
In the advanced class, several photographers achieved maximum scores.
Gordon Rae came up trumps again with ‘Lunch,’ featuring a snake swallowing a lizard – not for the squeamish. Brian Bond achieved two maximum scores for ‘Astrantia with Bee’ and ‘Misty Boardwalk,’ the latter taken at dawn on Thursley Common.
John Wichall also managed a double top with a brace of nature images, ‘Kingfisher Subduing a Perch’ and ‘Red Squirrel’, the latter taken on Brownsea Island, one of the few places in the South of England where red squirrels can still be found.
Ludshott Photographic Club, which draws its members from Bordon, Headley, Grayshott, Liphook, Haslemere and the surrounding area, welcomes new members.
