A FRESH addition to the Haslemere Hogs herd by town artist and designer Barbara Caswell will ensure this weekend’s grand parade will be the “pork of the town”.
All 60 life-sized fibreglass pigs, each brilliantly decorated to their sponsor’s individual specification, will be on show together for one day only at Haslemere Museum, on Saturday, April 1.
The arts project to promote the town, which looks set to raise many thousands of pounds for Haslemere Mayor Sahran Abeysundar’s nominated charities, was the brainchild of former town mayor Brian Howard, whose High Street business Marley Flowers has just celebrated its 60th anniversary.
Last Thursday, Barbara put the finishing touches to ‘Pig in Clover’, sponsored by Lucy and Chris Gray from Crofts Veterinary Surgery in Petworth Road.
“Lucy’s father raised pigs so sponsoring a Haslemere Herald Hog seemed very appropriate,” the artist said. “I was totally thrilled when they called me to ask me to decorate him. I’ve turned him into a bronze pig.”
