WAVERLEY Borough Council has set out how it plans to prevent Farnham becoming a "ghetto of sex establishments".

Responding to new legislation concerning the reclassification of Sexual Establishment Venues, Waverley's licensing committee last week agreed on a "watertight" set of criteria to determine where strip clubs would be deemed appropriate in the borough.

It means any forthcoming applicants would face the difficult task of siting their venue away from community facilities and public buildings including residential areas, play areas, parks, schools, churches, museums, galleries and libraries.

The council's criteria also prevents strip clubs being opened in areas where the police are concerned about crime or social difficulties, as well as stopping a sex establishment opening within 200m of another to prevent a "sex ghetto".
