A planning application submitted to Waverley Borough Council to allow the National Trust historic Hunter Base Camp at Swan Barn Farm, Haslemere, to be used for private hire has come under fire from some residents.

Use of the camp on the Blackdown Estate off

Collards Lane is currently restricted for use by

volunteer workers but Waverley planners may agree open up the site to private groups for up to 40 days a year.

While some residents support the application as a way of bringing in much-needed funds, others fear it may become a party or festival venue and spoil the peace and tranquility of the area.
