CALA Homes has lodged an appeal against Waverley Borough Council’s latest refusal of planning permission for 43 new homes at Baker Oates Stables in Gardeners Hill Road.
The developer has already won outline consent for its plans at appeal - establishing the principle of development on the site as well as its access from Gardeners Hill Road - despite widespread opposition from Waverley councillors and nearby residents.
However, it is yet to secure planning permission for the development’s final appearance, landscaping, layout and scale having been refused consent last November by Waverley Borough Council’s joint planning committee.
CALA Homes has made a number of “minor changes” to its appeal submission, responding to the committee’s criticism that the development’s “linear nature and lack of architectural variety…would be out of character with the surrounding area”.
But in its appeal papers, the developer has also hinted at the prospect of an “alternative scheme” coming forward following consultation with the local community in March - commenting that the appeal is merely to “protect its position”.
