RESIDENTS in Badshot Lea have been taken by surprise after plans for a further 50 homes at Green Lane Farm were submitted this week – in direct conflict with the Farnham Neighbourhood Plan and the will of more than 10,000 town residents.

The plans, submitted to Waverley Borough Council by Dijksman Planning (Uk) Llp, seek outline consent for 35 market and 15 affordable homes with access from Badshot Lea Road.

If granted, the application will establish the principle of development on the four-acre greenfield site, with details such as the scheme’s design and landscaping to be determined at a later date.

Waverley, the local planning authority, has set a March 21 target to determine the application.

Public comments are welcomed online at www.waverley.gov.uk/planning under reference WA/2018/2196.

The site falls outside the Farnham built-up area boundary – as set out in the Neighbourhood Plan to combat ‘coalescence’ between settlements – and is immediately opposite both Badshot Lea cemetery and the site of Farnham Estates’ proposed 43-home development also at Green Lane Farm, allowed on appeal in March, again in conflict with the Neighbourhood Plan.

The site is also just 500m from Little Acres Nursery in Badshot Lea, where Bellway Homes is in the process of building a 94-home development next to Squire’s Garden Centre.

Responding to the latest plans, Cliff Watts, chairman of the Badshot Lea Community Association, told the Herald the application has come “completely out of the blue” but added: “It was not much of a surprise given what happened with Green Lane Farm.”

* Another housing developer, Taylor Wimpey, is inviting prospective homeowners to attend an exclusive launch event for its Abbey View development on the Beavers Road hop fields in Farnham on January 26 and 27 at The Bush Hotel in The Borough.

The housing giant says it has already received a “huge amount” of interest in the 120-home scheme, accessed from Crondall Lane, claiming more than 1,000 people have registered an interest in the homes, which include a mix of one-bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five-bedroom houses.
