East Hampshire District Council have approved plans for a 2.4 metre school fence to be built in Alton despite several objections from nearby residents.

Plans to build perimeter fencing on the Amery Hill School boundary to help safeguarding works have been rubber stamped by planning officers.

The school argued the application is driven by the need to meet increased safeguarding and security requirements, the need to prevent unauthorised access and the importance of a clearly defined and secure site boundary

But it was opposed by some local residents who say the height of the fence is too high.

One resident said: “The proposed height of the fence is excessive and would have a harmful impact on the character and visual amenity of the surrounding area.

“Such a structure would appear overly dominant and out of keeping with the locality, creating an oppressive and intrusive boundary for neighbouring properties.”
