TWO shopfronts in Lion and Lamb Yard have been earmarked for a facelift as part of a programme of improvement works in the much-loved shopping area.

The original architects of the cobbled yard’s redevelopment in the mid-1980s, Lyons+Sleeman+Hoare, have been instructed to redesign the frontages to units 7 and 8.

Number 7 is currently unoccupied following the closure of homeware retailer Lots of Living, while unit 8 has long been the home of Andre Noir jewellers.

If granted permission, the works will include the demolition of a wooden covered walkway above the shopfronts and a new fabric awning fitted in its place.

And according to a planning statement submitted by the architects, it falls within a much wider programme of works envisaged by yard owners MDDT Nominees SA And Wolfe Nominees Ltd.

These improvements will, says the statement, “improve and enhance the existing retail and food offers within the context of both Lion and Lamb Yard and the wider retail area, thereby benefiting the vitality and viability of the town centre”.

The application has already gained the backing of Farnham Town Council and can be viewed and commented upon online at www.waverley.gov.uk/planning under reference WA/2016/1514.
