AN appeal is to be held into an application to build six new dwellings after the demolition of two existing properties and outbuildings at 68 and 70 Lymington Bottom Road, Medstead.
The application attracted more than 25 letters from the public, objecting in particular on grounds that Four Marks and South Medstead has already exceeded the current housing target for the area and over the impact of more traffic trying to access the A31 from the Lymington Bottom Road junction.
Nor, in the opinion of Medstead Parish Council, was the proposed backland development sustainable.
The application was turned down by East Hampshire District planners who felt that “the design, layout and scale of the proposed development would result in an incongruous and cramped form of development that would be at odds with the established semi-rural spacious character and primarily linear pattern of development in the locality” and that it failed to comply with local planning policy, including the Medstead and Four Marks Neighbourhood Plan.
The proposed development would also be likely to damage and potentially destroy one or more trees protected by Tree Preservation Orders. The appeal is to be determined by written representations which should be sent to The Planning Inspectorate, Room 3D, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square,
Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN.
Correspondence must
arrive no later than Monday, August 15, and should be marked with the reference APP/M1710/W/16/3151088.
