PLANS have been submitted to build five more homes on the site of former Haslemere pub The Crown and Cushion in Wey Hill. The green light was given for six flats in 2014 and a basement flat was approved last year.

The latest application is to build a small residential mews in the old pub car park and beer garden, providing four two bedroom homes – two detached and two semis – plus and an extension to Wey Hill House to provide a two-bed flat. The design of the new buildings would incorporate the prominent front gables and hipped roof of Wey Hill House.

The application claims Waverley Borough Council’s five-year housing supply was short of 498 dwellings up until March 2020, back in October.

It states: “If Waverley cannot demonstrate a five-year supply of deliverable housing sites, applications should be considered in the context of a presumption in favour of sustainable development. This genuine windfall brownfield site assists the council in seeking to meet its housing requirement.”
