THE Fernhurst campaign for a pavilion to be proud of has taken another major step forward with new plans being finalised.
Developed with sport facilities experts Sports Clubhouses, the scheme will provide modern changing and social facilities needed to support more than 800 members of sports and leisure clubs.
The designs were drawn up over many months by Fernhurst Recreation Ground Trust in conjunction with the village football, cricket, tennis and stoolball clubs.
Trustee Bill Gourlay said: “We were very careful to ensure we produced a solution that meets the needs of our community, which complies with the regulations set down by sports governing bodies. It gives us a pavilion which will fit into our beautiful village green setting in a much more sympathetic manner than the existing building.”
“Our designs are now with the South Downs planning authority, which we hope will recognise the importance of these facilities to the community. While we expect to receive some assistance from grants, this initiative is very much an example of the community coming together to help improve their environment.
“We still have a lot of work to be done in raising the necessary funds but are determined to deliver a valuable asset that will proudly serve the village for at least the next 50 years”.
Fundraising for Fernhurst Pavilion 2022 appeal is now in full swing following a successful black-tie event at Lythe Hill Hotel, Haslemere, before Christmas.
Many events are being organised for 2019.
The legendary Blackdown Run is being revived on April 28, while on July 19, the cricket club will host the world famous Lashings team. More big workouts and a barn dance are also planned.
