REVISED plans have been submitted to convert a large country house in Wormley into six new homes to provide for “a pressing need for new homes in the borough”.

An earlier application to convert Gorse Hill into aparments ranging from one, three and five bedrooms, was withdrawn in January.

That followed objections from bridleway users and rights of way officers about “potential conflict” between vehicles and walkers on the shared access from Petworth Road.

The revised application includes two passing bays on the access to improve road safety to address the concerns raised.

Gorse Hill is in the Surrey Hills area of outstanding natural beauty, and an area of great landscape value. The plan is to divide the house and studio vertically into five flats with minimal changes to the external appearance, with one house in the garage building.

The planning statement notes re-using large buildings in the green belt is an appropriate development, and as Gorse Hill is located outside a defined settlement there is no need to provide affordable housing.
